Whatever became of blue-dot tail lights?

They used to be all the rage when I was growing up. Everybody was putting them on their cars. I tried to get my own folks to get them for our cars but they thought they were too low-life, way too rednecky, not for respectable folk like us.

Here is one for a 38-39 ford, although you could get them for just about any car throughout the 1950s. You could either replace the entire tail-light lens with a blue-dot equipped one, or get a cheap decal you could stick on the factory lens for the same effect.

From a distance, it gave the tail lights a dimmer, purplish look that was thought to be cool. Ah yes, it was a simpler time, an innocent time…
