So now we’ve learned the DPRK has developed a nuke-capable ICBM, and a miniturized warhead for it. So I guess its OK now to start prepping the American public for a war in Asia. Can you spell WMD? Wanna play Dominoes?
Forgive the sarcasm, but isn’t this just a bit too obvious? The timing of this announcement just strains credulity. No, don’t get me wrong, I don’t doubt the potential truth of either of these speculations, it certainly is possible, and I would even go as far as to say its probable. But to release the news now? This is a pretty obvious attempt to prep us (and the rest of the world) for war. There is another possibility, that its just a bluff on our part to intimidate the N Koreans by convincing them we are about to attack, so they’d better surrender first–although I can’t imagine even the Trump administration being stupid enough to paint itself into that kind of corner. What if they say no, or if they panic and do something really stupid, like invading the south or shelling Seoul? You don’t bluff unless you can back it up, have a Plan B, or are desperate. But Donald has spent a lot of time and effort convincing the world he’s impulsive and irresponsible, and crazy enough to do something irrational. He wants people to think he has an itchy trigger finger. It worked for Hitler after all, in the Rhineland, Austria, and Czechoslovakia. But it didn’t work in Poland.
What is most likely is that the DPRK has had this tech for some time now, and we were perfectly aware of it, but kept it quiet. Now is the time to go public for political—and propaganda—reasons.
Just think, isn’t it extraordinary that these two highly different technological programs both matured at the same time? And why would you start the highly expensive and risky development for one unless the other was perfected? Actually, we have three complex strategic technologies apparently approaching maturity simultaneously, if you count the N Korean development of their own boomer submarines. We, the Koreans, and our allies are getting prepped for something.
After all, doesn’t Mr Trump believe the intelligence agencies can’t get anything right? He doesn’t believe them about Putin.
Then again, maybe I’ve misjudged Donald Trump. Maybe Chinese support is what he gets in return for ceding control of the S China Sea to the PRC. You know how he loves to make deals.
