The Republican Party is mobilizing all its resources to try and get rid of Donald Trump. Of course, they have no one to blame but themselves. All during his rise, all the way back to the days of his birtherism and his attacks on Obama’s parentage and his academic achievements, Conservatives who knew better and should have spoken up lit their cigarettes, tied their shoes, cleared their throats and looked the other way, because it helped to fire up the troglodytes that scurry about the dark foetid caverns of the GOP base.
Now the beast is fully awake and threatening to eat their lunch, and they’re all assholes and elbows, pointing fingers and making excuses, trying to explain the Donald away, why he isn’t really their fault. The most novel excuse I’ve heard lately from GOP spinland is that Trump was aided and abetted by the lamestream media, that it was undue attention from the liberal press that made him into a superstar. You know, the old “Obama ate my homework” excuse.
For their part, the Trumpites dismiss all resistance and dismay to the outrages of their hero as the obstruction of the GOP “establishment”, the moderates and the RINOs, that is, anyone that doesn’t agree with them. Like all fascists, fundamentalists and fanatics, they reserve their deepest hatred not for their opponents, but for the apostates in their own ranks.
And when the Donald, or whoever the GOP manages to replace him with, goes down to the Mighty Clinton, they’ll use the same excuse the Right always relies on when they lose an election:
“Our candidate just wasn’t conservative enough.”
