This probably applies only to me and my archaic PC-AT keyboard where the backspace key (for quick high-speed typing corrections) is right next to the escape key (which irrevocably deletes everything I write in one of these windows). Not even ctrl-Z brings it back.
It would be nice if this escape-wipes-whole-post thing were disabled, but again, I’m probably the only victim of this.
