I disagree December 28, 2020 5:15 am ER

https://www.politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2020/12/28/trump-got-nothing-491250

WHAT A BIZARRE, embarrassing episode for the president. He opposed a bill his administration negotiated. He had no discernible strategy and no hand to play — and it showed. He folded, and got nothing besides a few days of attention and chaos. People waiting for aid got a few days of frightening uncertainty.

ZIP. ZERO. ZILCH. If he was going to give up this easy, he should’ve just kept quiet and signed the bill. It would’ve been less embarrassing.

I can’t disagree more with Politico. He managed to convince his Trumplodytes
that he was fighting to get them a raise, but that the Deep State blocked it. But in truth, a whole lot of money was spent but each individual only got enough for a week’s groceries.

Trump may leave the White House, but he will leave behind a ready made constituency for the next time, a nucleus of the disaffected around which the Right can build a new coalition to exploit the coming failures of the Biden-Harris regime.

And there will be failures. Even if the Democrats with, at best, the slimmest of legislative majorities, succeed in cleaning up the Trump mess, America still has a whole lot of other problems on the horizon and little in its arsenal of solutions. There will also be plenty of GOP obstruction and sabotage, too. The Republicans demonstrated during the Obama years that they are perfectly ready to hamstring even their own pet projects if it means they can obstruct and embarrass the Libs.

As for the Trump comeback in 2024, I wouldn’t worry about that. There are plenty of other fascists out there ready to take his place, some of them a lot smarter than he is, who have learned from his mistakes and won’t be making them again.
