Chicago was unfortunate in every way March 12, 2016 7:58 pm mcfly

I have to disagree with the protesters on at least one count: stifling speech is not a victory. Yes, I too would sincerely love it if Trump shut the hell up, but it’s not my decision to make. The events in Chicago cannot be allowed to appear as a precedent.

Trump too, made a serious error in judgement by booking a venue in the heart of “enemy territory,” and moreover an area already on edge. He’s been accused of going out of his way to deliberately invite confrontation. There are lots of facilities in and around Chicago, but the choice he made was widely seen as deliberately provocative.

Sanders too might be able to help by asking his supporters to respect the other potential candidates, and indeed all Americans, by allowing them to communicate. I absolutely do not hold him accountable in any way for Chicago, but it appears than many of the protest organizers are Sanders supporters. His voice raised in defense of civility can’t hurt.

RL’s right—if things keep going the way they are, somebody’s gonna get killed.
