A comment on an extended warranty. April 3, 2014 10:54 am bowser

When I got my Samsung laptop prior to taking a trip last year I purchased a 3 year extended warranty with it.  It just seemed reasonable.  I had purchased the laptop for the RV, and it seems that sooner or later everything winds up on the floor.  And, indeed, I did drop it.

Shortly after that it wouldn’t boot.  I turned it on and off, waited, and is simply wouldn’t boot.  I called the extended warranty folks and was told that wasn’t covered.  I figured as much, expecting the worst.  I told the customer service guy that was OK, it was probably my fault as I had dropped it to the floor of my RV.

“You didn’t say it fell”, the guy says.  ”If it was dropped, you’re covered.”  He wanted me to take it to the place at which it was purchased.

I told him I was travelling, and had very limited options.  He then said to take it anywhere, Best Buy or any computer repair shop and have them call the warranty people.  They’d pay for it.

What a pleasant surprise!!!

(I took it to a Best Buy in Washington, D. C.  The fellow there plugged it in, and it booted up.  Go figure.)
