Thanksgiving wine advice sought. November 17, 2013 10:35 pm bowser

I’m looking for help.  I quit drinking 36 years ago and am out of this loop.

I have been invited to a friend’s for Thanksgiving.  There will be 10 or 12 people there, all of whom drink.

I have thought about taking a fruit salad (I make a great fresh fruit salad) or flowers.  I don’t think either of those would be particularly welcome.  However, a bottle of an appropriate wine would always be appreciated.

The local supermarket has been remodeled, and must have at least 2,000 different wines priced above $15 a bottle.  There are maybe several hundred priced less than that.  There are red, white, yellow and because the bottles are colored it’s impossible to tell what other colors there may be.

What would be a good wine, $20 to $30, to take to a Thanksgiving dinner?  How can one tell anymore, considering that most of what is available is from local wineries?  Does it make much difference?

Thanks for whatever attention you can give this.
