Cramming 50 lbs into a five-pound bag September 1, 2012 9:47 pm TB

I’m trying to shove Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 into a ten-year old laptop.  One of my two spare computers.  The other one is even older.

This is my second shot at an install.  Had problems with the first one.  The software has politely informed me that my system doesn’t quite have what it takes, but we’ll see. I’m really pushing the envelope on some of my older systems, but I have to assume that my main machine might blow up some day and leave me in the lurch at a critical time.

I did a quick look at new laptops, although I can’t afford anything at all right now. Prices for PC laptops run anywhere from vanilla boxes for about $600 all the way up to twelve-pound Alienware monsters for over $3,000. For that kind of cash, it damn well better contain a real alien.

To further complicate things, I’m still running a few pieces of essential software that won’t run on anything above Windows XP.
