Democracy May 28, 2012 8:17 pm bowser

Let’s assume that six families live in close proximity.  Each of them is different, each of them has their own agenda, religion and values.

There is one road through the area in which they live.  There is one stream, there are some big trees but only a few.  There is one building, a bit decrepit but repairable, which is suitable for a church.  Could double as a school.  One of the families has a daughter who would be suitable as a teacher.

The road is a problem.  It travels to and from other villages, is important for transporting cattle and crops.

The families get together.  They agree upon a levy based upon usage to repair the road.  5 out of the 6 families go for that.  The 6th says that each family should be levied equally, it’s not fair to go by usage because they use it 3 times as much as anyone else.  They also say that the road should be rerouted to run along side their farm rather than through the town.

They also say that the school – church – meeting hall needs repair.  That pesky 6th family says that it should be modified to be a Basic Christians Only church, and used for no other purpose.  Otherwise their religion prevents them from contributing to the building.  Additionally, any school curriculum must conform to Basic Christian theology, or they won’t be able to contribute.  And because they own the local general store, that should have priority for a public building.

Basic Christian theology allows for no compromises, no working with others, as their God is The God, and the remaining villagers are condemned to death and then Hell.  Contributing to a building which might be used for purposes other than those in line with Basic Christianity would be facilitating along the road to perdition those folks are on.  They simply can’t help.

So, the rest of the community repairs the road, rebuild community building and hire a teacher.  The Basic Christians are able to use the road, used the building, and send their kids to school, just can’t pay for it.  Wouldn’t be prudent in the eyes of Basic Christianity.

That’s why Basic Christians, are against compromise, against working with others for the common good, why their way is the only way.  Why they don’t like democracy.

Ya gotta love ‘em.  They tolerate the rest of us.  Just because laws force them to doesn’t change things.  But without the laws they’d have everyone else living behind barbed wire.   Because Basic Christianity is very comfortable with slavery, with slaughter of religious enemies, with suppression of other religions.

Now if you don’t believe that, see how they try to cram down their religious beliefs down our throats.  Abortion and school prayer come to mind, and you can imagine what would come next if they got those rammed through.

And I can’t hate ‘em for not liking democracy.  It’s all that protects us from Basic Christianity.
