I don’t know how well this story is being covered in your part of the country, but its all over the local news here.

Many years ago, a massive airstrip capable of handling the biggest jets was constructed in the middle of the Everglades, but it was never used due to environmental reasons. It should be easy to find on Google Earth. It was supposed to be a facility for training airline pilots, but there are all sorts of rumors as to what really was going on out there. Supposedly, it was secure and sealed off from the public or drug smugglers would use it

The runway is now officially a construction site, and a prison facility capable of handling several thousand deportees is going up there. Illegals, or anyone else, for that matter, can be quickly flown in, kept for as long as necessary, and then be just as quickly flown out to some other destination. The local news has nicknamed it “Alligator Alcatraz”, because there is only one road in and out of there, and it is surrounded by impenetrable swamp.

As soon as the word got out the Feds descended on the place, bringing in trailers and staking out tents, construction materials and machinery are being stockpiled there and I’m sure some hard facilities are being erected there. There are already pictures in the local news of massive dormitories filled with bunkbeds, lots of chain-link fencing and so on. Presumably other facilities will be built there, food services, admin, electric power, sewage treatment, guard barracks, etc.

No effort has been made to keep it secret (there are Indians and sportsmen in airboats and swamp buggies all over the ‘glades) and environmentalists are already picketing the site. Miami mayor Cava has officially protested it because of the environmental threat it presents (most of south Florida depends on the ‘glades for its fresh water). Trump landed there on Air Force One and held a presser with Governor DiSantis and Ice Barbie. No effort has been made to keep it secret, but this has already gone down with alarming speed, over the weekend, while everyone was distracted with the Big Beautiful Bill horrorshow in Washington. There has been only a minimum of nationwide coverage, although local TV is filming down there. I don’t think they did an environmental impact study. The alarming speed with which events are developing there tells me this has been meticulously planned and executed. This has been in the works for a long time.

Trump mentioned there might be other facilities like this going up soon in other parts of the country, and DiSantis is talkin about deputizing the Florida National Guard as “ICE Agents”.
