Mike Johnson appears to have lost control of his conference. The House is currently legislating by what was supposed to be the unusual procedural move: Discharge Petition. GOP members are defying leadership and joining Democrats in forcing legislation Mike Johnson, and the Orange Criminal POS, don’t want. In the 119th Congress, 13 discharge petitions have been filed as of January 8, 2026, with four successfully reaching the 218-signature threshold to force floor action:
ACA Subsidy Extension (H.Res. 780):
Reached 218 signatures on December 17, 2025. The motion to discharge was officially approved by the House (221–205) on January 7, 2026.
January 8, 2026, the House passes the bill (H.R. 1834) to extend healthcare subsidies for 3 years and sends it to the Senate where it faces likely death at the hands of the GOP Senate.
Epstein Files Transparency Act (H.Res. 577):
Successfully forced a vote and passed the House 427–1 on November 18, 2025.
Became law. The Senate passed it via unanimous consent on November 19, 2025, and it was signed by the President. STILL NOT FULLY IMPLEMENTED BY THE DOJ.
Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.Res. 432):
Reached 218 signatures in late November 2025 after two Republicans joined Democrats.
this petition forces a floor vote on H.R. 2550, which aims to restore collective bargaining rights for federal workers. Johnson trying to block it with procedural methods.
Parental Remote Voting (H.Res. 164):
Reached 218 signatures in early 2025 but was ultimately “laid on the table” (effectively killed) on April 8, 2025, following related procedural motions.
Pending Discharge Petitions: (Not Yet Reached 218)
No. 11 Stock Trading Prohibition (H.R. 1908)
No. 13 Advance Responsible Policies (H.R. 185)
No. 12 Commonsense Priorities (H.R. 3001)
No. 2 Payment System Protection (H.R. 1101)
No. 7 National Emergency Nullification (H.J. Res. 91)
With the death of CA GOP Rep Doug LaMalfa, his redrawn district looks a lock for Dems now. That will help with these and more Discharge Petitions.
