My OP was largely tongue in cheek. Even though most of these super rich bastards are in fact severe assholes, I still support their space exploration goals. The clock is ticking on all of us and I'd sure like to see some big human space achievements in my lifetime. Sorry to say I've lost quite a bit of faith in government led projects getting the job done anywhere near on time or on cost. Plus changing Admins usually keep changing priorities. Maybe sometimes it takes a single minded fanatic with adolescent fantasies? For Hitler, rocket artillery was just a desperate attempt to win the war on the cheap, but for von Braun, everything human and decent was subordinated to his pathetic fantasy of playing spaceman. If the Axis had won the war he would just have willingly continued working for them. And if the Russians had gotten to him first, he would just as willingly worked for them. Yeah, I love space travel too, but there are prices I am not willing to pay. The purpose of technology is to serve Man, not the other way round.
