From April first to today there has never been less SIE in Antarctic waters than ever before during the satellite era. For a brief period in 2016 between 13 Nov and 1 December), the 2016 SIE was a bit lower, but it appears now that even that is over. Look at the interactive graph in the link. Its hard to explain this relationship verbally, but a look at the graphic tells us something terrible is happening in Antarctica.
