I am not a musician. I understand only the rudiments of musical notation, and the computer generated visual aids help somewhat, but I can only glimpse the tip of the iceberg. There is so much meaning and order collapsed here, so many levels of complexity. Its like prying open the back of a fine watch and contemplating all the wheels and levers and cams and springs meshing into one another.

I’m not sure whether to be inspired or depressed by it all. Its not just that I can’t do THAT. Its that I can’t do anything LIKE that. And if you can’t do anything like that, what’s the point of it all?
