No matter how competent and conscientious Biden’s administration is, its bound to run into colossal problems. Not only has Trump made a mess of things, his failure to graciously accept the will of the electorate and assist in the transition will present enormous obstacles to his successor. And it will be impossible to deny the responsibility for those obstacles. There will also be issues down the line which will be only obliquely related to Mr Trump. But no matter what Biden does, China, Covid, Putin and AGW will still be there. And now we’ll have the Great Republican Debt to worry about too. No longer will the GOP be able to complain about “tax and spend Liberals”.

But no matter what doesn’t work out for Biden, he can always blame it on Trump, and people will believe him. Trump’s malfeasance, petulance, childishness and downright treasonous behavior have given Biden plenty of excuses for anything that goes south over the next four years. And the American people will never forget or forgive how the boot-licking sycophants in the GOP (that is, the vast majority of them) caved in to the Beast.

The followers of Bernie and Alexandria can take comfort that the Trump years not only made American Democratic Socialism possible, they made it necessary.
