I discovered that my few already published works still need a lot of, well — work. I’m doing rewrites and would like to republish.

Book 2 in my Tash Trilogy is looking very clean, very good. It ain’t easy for the dyslexic-minded writer.

I worked out an Earth-Mars future calendar and am currently throwing in all my characters and major events, leaving much open for future works. Looks like my “Trilogy” may get decimaled out into a series (e.g., Book 1, Book 1.1, Book 1.2, Book 2, Book 2.1, Book 2.2, Book 3, Book 3.1, Book 3.2…).

Fun times. As Sheldon Cooper stated, “I’m a fan of anything that tries to replace actual human contact.”

I’ll probably get mail for that…

“The Journey of Jones” by Robert Sheckley

It has a brilliant premise. It is told from the perspective of a historian Centuries after a nuclear war that destroyed civilization and left Polynesian islanders untouched to inherit the ruins of the world.

The “history” puts down in writing for the first time tales of life in the western world told by 2 survivors of the great war that managed to make their way to Polynesian islands in its aftermath.

For Centuries the tales have been passed down via the oral tradition… as a result they have been mixed with other myths and stories and outright fabrication.

It was written in the 60′s… and it shows.

See my earlier comments recommending “The Crying of Lot 49″ by Pynchon to follow the Post Office theme.

If you haven’t read Neal Stephenson, start with “Snow Crash.”

If you can find some John Varley, any Varley, do it. Along this end of the world theme, try “Slow Apocalypse.” His short stories are great.

For an examination of conspiracy theories (also topical!) Umberto Eco’s “Foucault’s Pendulum” is a must -but long – read.

Honestly, I was hoping for less... thematic suggestions, seeing as I've read enough of those. Minna Sundberg's Stand Still, Stay Silent, Max Brook's The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z (Come to think of it, there's been a lot of zombie books I've gone through), and select Black Death readings already top that list, and moving away would be ideal.
