Even if nothing comes of these impeachment investigations, or even if Trump is acquitted of the charges against him in the Senate; even if he is re-elected to the Presidency for another four (or more!) years, then at least history and the world will have seen that America resisted. There will still be Americans who used the legal and constitutional tools available to them to try and save their country. Those who participated, and those who supported them, and even the framers of the Constitution and the founders of the Republic will have been justified. Their, and our, honor will be intact.

Whatever tragedy and disgrace, or otherwise, befalls the nation will be essentially what it deserves. Trumpism will fail or succeed depending on what the majority of the American people want, weighted by their will to work and bring it about. (desire or numbers alone is not enough.) Even if the worst happens, it will be because as a democracy, we let it happen.

Trumpism rose to power with ballots, not bayonets, it arose, succeeded or failed through legal means…just like Hitler in Germany. Whatever shady political maneuvers or propaganda schemes led to this regime, what socio-cultural or economic factors were exploited or manipulated happened in plain sight, they did it with our approval and consent, or at least because too many of us failed to do enough to stop them. Its not the Russians, or Mitch, the electoral college or voter suppression, Citizens United or gerrymandering, we did this to ourselves. All those things happened because we did nothing to stop them.

This nation will get the government it deserves, and all of us will be dragged to that destiny whether we individually deserve it or not.
