If the President dismisses Congress, suspends the Constitution, cancels an election or chooses to disregard its result, ignores the courts, directs his private security people to assassinate political opponents and orders the arrest and indefinite detention of anyone he dislikes, there is nothing that can be done to stop him EXCEPT impeachment and conviction; at least until he he steps down or is removed from office. And of course, what's to stop him from making any attempt at impeachment null and void by executive fiat?

It sounds to me like they are trying to set the legal stage for a Presidential takeover of the government, probably in conjunction with some bogus "state of emergency".

Again, I'm not surprised he might float an idea like this, and neither am I surprised that the Republican Party hasn't immediately gone into outrage to protest that action. These guys are willing to sell out their country as well as their mothers for a tax cut.

And I'm willing to bet that about a third of the adult population of this country would feel that there was absolutely nothing wrong with any of that, even if you explained to them precisely what it meant.

For them, though, this statute would only apply to Conservative Presidents.
