Trump couldn’t get the Mexicans to pay for his wall.
And for the last two years he couldn’t get his own Congress to pay for it.
Now he wants to “negotiate” with the Democrats so he can save face with his knuckle-dragger constituency. You know, the usual false-equivalence bullshit, “common ground”, “compromise”, “meeting half way”. If they give in, even an inch, the Dems haven’t got a hair on their ass!
The wall is not going to work; you can go over it, under it, around it, or punch a hole straight through it. You don’t need anything more high-tech than a ladder or a rope to defeat it. Illegals and contraband mostly come across the border in trucks, anyway. The only way a physical barrier will work is if there are men with guns standing behind it, and if you’ve got THEM, then you don’t need a fucking wall in the first place. A stripe painted on the ground will do just fine. And the Dems are willing to pay for that, and the men with guns, so what’s his problem?
Trump and his gang know all this perfectly well. This is all about getting someone else to honor his promises to the Deplorables, because he can’t, and his own party won’t. And now he’s threatening to go over the Congress’s head by building the wall under some form of executive State of Emergency. The House won’t approve, but the Senate will, or at least, not be able to come up with a veto-proof majority. In other words, from now on, if you can’t get the votes in Congress, you just ignore them and do it anyway. The Senate will do nothing to stop it. Nothing the GOP doesn’t want will even come up for a vote in the Senate. And the GOP only wants what Trump wants.
An effectively unicameral legislature is a direct violation of the Constitution, and grounds for impeachment. The House can indict, but the Senate will not convict. But even without conviction, the Democratic House has to go on record or they will be complicit in the coming of fascism to America. If they go along with this they are just as responsible as the Republicans for the consequences.
