The Republicans want to protect their tax cut. The Democrats want to stop them from doing so.

Yeah, I know more than the tax cut is involved, its also about unions, EPA, campaign financing, gerrymandering and a million other issues. But what it all reduces to is do we want a country where labor rules, or management?

American politics always resolves itself in the final analysis to the age-old war between the workers and the bosses, and everything else is a smokescreen. I see myself as an employee, you clearly see yourself as a manager.

Something seems fishy. Why bring accusations if you don't want BK confronted.

Feinstein didn't bring it up because the witness didn't want to be put through the wringer, like she was eventually anyway. How many times does this have to be explained to you guys? And why didn't you address any of the other points I brought up in my response?

Without Ford's assent and willingness to come forward, Feinstein's hands were tied. She had no choice but to keep Ford's name out of it. The GOP is somehow trying to pin this all on Feinstein because they knew if they attacked Dr Ford it might backfire on them with the public. Although Trump seems to be doing that now with impunity. The official Republican position seems to be <em>"She was sexually assaulted all right, she just can't remember who it was."</em> Its no wonder the #metoo women are having fits about this. Its an insult to every woman (not just the ones who have been raped) and the Right is too dense to understand that.

The leak was unfortunate, and it was probably from some member of Feinstein's staff, for which she should be held accountable. But you can't seize on that to proudly proclaim there should be no investigation at all, or that it should be done half-assedly, or that it should be rush, rush, rushed before the elections.

This is not about Feinstein, or even Ford; its about Kavanaugh. I think everyone is starting to finally realize that its not about his high school hijinks or Dr Ford, either. Its about all the other failures to investigate, especially the documentary record of his work for the Bush administration, which was <em>withheld for months</em> and only released at the last minute by Trump and the Republicans so that their impact could not influence the proceedings.

There may be nothing illegal in those documents, but they might certainly have cast some doubt on Kavanaugh's ability to be fair and impartial. Its pretty clear by now, from his testimony, that Kavanaugh does not have the stability and temperament to be a judge, and he certainly exhibits a lot of partisan arrogance and preconceptions, not to mention a proclivity to allow Clinton conspiracy theory to cloud his legal reasoning. The only thing he brings to SCOTUS is the certainty he will vote for the Republican position every time, and a bit of legal insurance for Trump if he ever gets subpoenaed or impeached.

This isn't just about Kavanaugh, its about the Republican determination to stack the court with their people for another generation. And they need to do so quickly before the voters catch up with their crimes. Remember Merrick Garland? They had <em>eight fucking months</em> to consider that case and they made sure it never even came up for hearings. You can't blame that on Feinstein.

You'd better read that article again, Rob, because its not very flattering to the GOP.

There's no way the GOP would have delayed the investigation til after the election, or allowed a proper one to be done ahead of time. Their task was to get the man installed before election day, not to figure out if he was guilty of anything. They also delayed and obstructed all Democrat attempts to access documents Kavanagh had worked on while lawyering for the Bush administration so they could check on his former opinions, judgments and positions. They flatly refused to deliver the documents until just hours before the vote, knowing the Dems would have no chance to go through them, much less bring them up in their questioning. The GOP had the votes, the Dems couldn't stop Kavanaugh, but the Republicans did not want US, the voters, to hear what was in those documents. And if it hadn't of been for Flake's last minute switcheroo after his elevator encounter with the rape victims there would have been no investigation at all. The Republican majority were going to cram Kavenaugh through with NO investigation because they had the votes (until Flake flipped).

Rob, haven't you been watching the news? This clown was railroaded through, just like they railroaded the tax bill and the Obamacare repeal. Even when the Republicans have the votes, they don't dare let the people hear the debate because they know it will kill them politically.

Besides, we know the man was unfit for the office from his testimony before the committee. No, I'm not talking about the alleged assault, that will probably never be settled one way or another. I'm talking about the partisan screed he unleashed during his rant. Listen to this former (retired) SCOTUS judge:

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/04/us/politics/john-paul-stevens-brett-kavanaugh.html

Not only did Kavanaugh come across as politically biased; "Democrat vengeance for Clinton losing the election????" But consider his disrespectful and petulant behavior to the inquisitors and his losing his temper. That disqualifies him on the grounds of temperament AND fairness. Its one thing to defend yourself from charges, and another to blame it on an Alex Jones Info Wars conspiracy. Can you expect this guy to rule fairly on ANY case that is politically controversial? He's going to go with the Republican position every single time.

Face it, Kavanaugh is just what he appears to be: a privileged little frat boy Young Republican snot. Maybe that's not enough to disqualify him from your court, but it sure as hell disqualifies him from mine.
