Since Wednesday, she has watched as that bare-bones version of her story became public without her name or her consent, drawing a blanket denial from Kavanaugh and roiling a nomination that just days ago seemed all but certain to succeed.

Now, Ford has decided that if her story is going to be told, she wants to be the one to tell it.

Death treats. Who didn’t see those coming. Some wacko right winger no doubt.

Feinstein kept her letter confidential until AFTER Ford chose to go public and testify. That’s much better treatment than she can ever hope to expect from the Republicans. You know that. RL has already documented how they’re trying to smear her. And she’s already getting death threats.

I agree this is a “he said/she said” situation that will probably never be resolved. But the Republican party is not interested in whether or not a crime occurred, or whether or not Kavanaugh is innocent or guilty of attempted rape. All they care about is the timing of this affair; getting their man confirmed before the election so they can stack the court for a generation.

That is all they care about, just like when they denied Merrick Garland his right to a hearing. These people don’t care about anything except their tax cut, the abolition of Obamacare, and the dismantling of EPA. Putting a rapist on the court would be a small price to pay for pushing through their corporatist agenda.

A small delay for a proper hearing might not settle this case one way or another, but it would probably postpone the decision until after the election, and the election might go for the Democrats.

For Chrissake Rob, can’t you see how vile these people are? They aren’t even making an effort to hide it any more.

Reminds of Trump’s recent whine about the “conspiracy” to defeat Kavanaugh’s nomination. Stripped of the venomous divisiveness and paranoia, that would be the millions of people and their representatives who view Kavanaugh as a dagger aimed at the heart of America, a political tool wielded by the extreme right.

In other words, politics.

As a political gambit, I think Feinstein’s use of Ford’s letter is pretty weak. But I don’t think it was ever seriously intended as more than a Hail Mary pass with no serious chance of derailing Kavanaugh’s nomination. But it sure as hell shines a spotlight on the desperation of Senate Republicans to rush Kavanaugh’s approval through before the midterms. Why the rush? Why suppress most of the documents? Why not at least investigate Ford’s claim? Anita Hill’s allegations got an airing; what’s different now?

We know the answer to all those rhetorical questions, don’t we?
