But the bloodshed is usually in private, behind closed doors. You do not humiliate or insult your opponents unless you have to, and never publicly, even if you have the upper hand. It can only bring trouble in the long run. Either they will respond rashly and violently, in order to save face, or they will bide their time until they have you behind the eight ball.

If you can negotiate from a position of strength, you dominate, but you give your opponent an "out", rather than force him to do something foolish or violent. He will be grateful for the opportunity to withdraw gracefully, with dignity, and it will help him sell a bad deal to his constituents. When you know you've been beaten, you remember the little courtesies.

Trump surely understands this, he claims to be such a clever businessman and negotiator, so I can only understand this thuggish behavior as an attempt to look tough in front of his own boorish supporters. Someday we may need Canada (or any of the other nations Trump is running up the score with) and they may get even. I know if I was in their place, I would.

This man is an abomination, and I can see that those who countenance his methods are the same.
