The USGS was created to collect data, analyze it, and share it with the public. It is about as pure science as it gets. But it has always, from the very start, been a punching bag when it comes to funding. This administration is afraid of science. All science, no exceptions, and they will continue to muzzle, muddle, meddle every chance they get, until they "plunge the land into a second darkness."

(Apologies for the late reply, I've been out of the office, out of the state, out of the country, for the last several weeks. Still trying to figure out where the hell I am.)

USGS isn't like BLM, NASA or NOAA or some other Interior agency that can leak out information conflicting with Trumpy environmental policies. I wonder what they're into that could be considered "controversial". Mining, land use, mineral rights on public lands?
