Dr. Mitchell Katz, CEO of NYC Health & Hospitals, said at least a dozen children separated from their parents at the border have been brought to the city’s public hospitals for treatment. Eight children came to North Central Bronx Hospital, and four have come to Bellevue. Katz said they arrived with their government-appointed guardians who often have no knowledge of the children’s medical history. “We have seen children as young as five and have treated teenagers who have presented with signs of anxiety, trauma and stress-related illness,” he said.

Dr. Ruth Gerson, Director of the Children’s Psychiatric Emergency Program at Bellevue, said some of the situations have been dire. At least one child was suicidal. Others have been injuring themselves. “We have seen children who look like they’re having psychotic symptoms, hearing voices or seeing things that aren’t there,” she said. “And when we’ve assessed them we learned those are actually nightmares or flashbacks” related to the separation from their parents.

President Trump has signed an executive order to halt the family separation process he created, but at least 2,500 children have already been taken from their parents and sent to shelters in at least 13 states. Some are as young as a few months old. Hundreds have been apart from distraught parents for several weeks. The system for reuniting these children with parents arrested for crossing the border illegally is chaotic, so the humanitarian crisis could persist for months.

Across the United States, the federal government is responsible for the care of more than 11,200 migrant children in about 100 shelters, which includes the 2,500 removed from their parents in the past five weeks. The rest are youngsters who came across the border alone. It’s a billion-dollar industry that has grown rapidly under the Trump administration’s push to close the border.

“President Trump has been brought to his knees because of the lawsuit we filed on February 26 and the ensuing public outcry. Kids should not have been separated from their parents in the first place and they still don’t belong in jail. His alleged solution to a crisis of his own making is many months too late. It is a crisis that should not have happened to begin with. He has caused irreparable damage to thousands of immigrant families.

“The devil is in the details. This crisis will not abate until each and every single child is reunited with his or her parent. An eleventh-hour executive order doesn’t fix the calamitous harm done to thousands of children and their parents. This executive order would replace one crisis for another. Children don’t belong in jail at all, even with their parents, under any set of circumstances. If the president thinks placing families in jail indefinitely is what people have been asking for, he is grossly mistaken.”

The Trump administration insisted it didn’t have a policy of separating children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. It said that it was merely following the law. And it said “Congress alone can fix” the mess.

It just admitted that all that was nonsense — and that it badly overplayed its hand.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who on Sunday and Monday insisted that this wasn’t an actual policy and that the administration’s hands are tied, will now have to untie them as the White House will reverse the supposedly nonexistent policy. Amid an outcry from Senate Republicans and an emerging promise to fix the problem themselves — just as the White House had demanded — the Trump administration has drafted an executive action to change the policy and keep families united.

It’s at once an admission that the politics of the issue had gotten out of hand and that the administration’s arguments were completely dishonest. Virtually everything it said about the policy is tossed aside with this executive action. It’s the political equivalent of waving the white flag and the legal equivalent of confessing to making false statements. Rather than letting Congress rebuke it, the White House is rebuking itself and trying to save some face.

Even some Republicans were admitting the White House surrendered.

First it was a deterrent. Then it wasn’t.

It was a new Justice Department policy. Then it wasn’t.

The Trump administration was simply following the law. Then it said separations weren’t required by law.

It could not be reversed by executive order. Then it was.

President Trump’s political gambit to force an immigration bill through Congress backfired Wednesday amid a series of wildly contradictory statements — which you can see for yourself in the video above — from a White House that has been without a communications director since Hope Hicks left in March.

As outrage grew over Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy on migrant family separations, White House officials could not even agree on what was happening at the southern border.

“This administration did not create a policy of separating families at the border,” Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said Monday.

On Tuesday, Marc Short, the White House director of legislative affairs, said it was indeed a policy.

“This is not a policy that people are excited about,” he said.

When a reporter asked Nielsen on Monday whether the policy was being used as a deterrent, she called the question “offensive.”

Hours later, Attorney General Jeff Sessions told Fox News Channel’s Laura Ingraham that yes, the policy was meant to send a “message” to immigrants crossing the border illegally.

We all know that the administration’s position was never based on a concern about child trafficking- we have memos, and tape of members of this administration flatly stating that the tearing of children from their parents was a punitive/deterrent measure.

So WHY do you try and sell that talking point here? Are you so delusional that you believe it? Or are you so delusional that you think we will believe the lie?

For the past week or so Trump has been trying to sell the lie that these separations were simply required by laws democrats made and denied that it was his policy that he could reverse with a phone call- this was easily shown to be a lie- even republican leaders wouldn’t back up that bullshit…

Only the most soulless partisan shills- such as yourself- tried to back up Trump on his claims, and he just yanked the rug out from under them by admitting it was HIS policy and reversing it… such is the lot of traitors… its not like you can get indignant about being betrayed by Trump at this point, right?

And now you have THIS- immigrant children were sent to facilities with histories of abuse, and children were forcibly drugged and sedated…

So now you have to decide- will you double down on your defense of atrocity, or will you admit this is outrageous and intolerable…
