There is some military advantage in using different weapons from different platforms, it complicates the air defense and radar problems of the defenders, but basically, it was a token contribution. I couldn't find a news report specifying exactly <i>how</i> they participated, so it may be in name only; but even so, it's like a Trump branding deal: They have standards to uphold before they'll slap their names on it. After the chemical attack Trump and Bolton wanted a far more dangerous response, Mattis argued for a more limited response... the fact that we engaged in a more limited response means only that Mattis was the last to speak to Trump before the order was given....
