he's shitting in his pants.

Secondary explosions. Mueller must be getting close. These maneuvers are feelers, testing the waters and prepping the chattering classes for his next move, which may be to go after the Mueller investigation by firing him. That is the last resort, it would unleash a tsunami of protest, but it would still buy him time.

Far be it from me to engage in speculation...but my guess is that if there is going to be a Mueller dismissal, it will be timed to occur on the eve of the negotiations with N Korea. He needs a really big distraction to draw press and Congressional attention away from the firing. And my guess is it will probably happen on a weekend, just like McCabe's sacking.

I can hear Huckabee-Sanders now;

<em>"Politics should stop at the water's edge. The President is currently entering a critical point in very important discussions with potentially hostile foreign leaders. These are matters of life and death, peace and war, we must keep petty partisan politics out of this. Now is not the time to be undermining the White House."</em>

Meanwhile the GOP is going to be split, either to rush uncritically to Trump's defense, or simply look the other way and pretend nothing is happening. After all, regardless of how they may personally feel about the White House, they don't want to endanger their tax cut, or their regulatory reform, or their war on Obamacare and entitlements. First things first, right?

You have to admit, it makes for great television.
