Although I realize not all Cons are like that, too damn many of them are, as I point out in my post “That is why the gun fetishists…etc” above. I’ve had gunsplaining inflicted on me once too often. For example, “Making guns illegal will not stop bad guys from getting guns”, or “Knives kill people too, we don’t ban them.” If that logic was valid, making speeding illegal would not discourage people from driving too fast. Just because some people ignore traffic laws is no reason not to have any.

Who the hell do these arrogant fuckers think they are? “There is no such thing as an assault rifle” or “You don’t know the difference between semi-automatic and full automatic, so you have no business having any opinion about firearms.”

Too often, Conservatives seem to think that only Conservatives love their family, or their country, or appreciate history, or are responsible and law-abiding. The Liberal stereotype they have created is that we are all pro-Communist, lazy, live off welfare, have no work ethic, want to coddle criminals, sex perverts and welfare cheats, love big government, budget deficits and high taxes, that we are afraid to defend our country and…well, I could go on. And no, we have not been brainwashed by an elitist hyper-leftist educational system and a secular humanist news media.

So frankly, we’re fed up with it. That kind of criticism of anyone who disagrees with you only does so because of a failure of morality or intellect is a sure sign of fascism. Yeah, fascism. You heard right. We’re not going to let Conservatives ban that term from polite conversation any longer.

So what I’ve described in posts above is not about people who have joined the NRA, or even about people who are members now. In fact, I don’t talk about the rank and file of the present organization at all, if you take the trouble to actually read my rant. My post is about the organization and its leadership as it is now, its program and its agenda, and the philosophy it promotes.

The NRA is a ruthless industry lobby willing to pervert the constitution, spread hate and discord and exploit the fears and phobias of Americans in order to promote its purely commercial corporate agenda. They rank right up there with the tobacco industry and the climate change denialists, Fox News and Alex Jones. The NRA is just one more conscienceless crooked businessman mafia, the type of position which the entire Conservative/Republican movement seems to be inexorably drifting into.

But RL did get it right when he quoted

“Joe the Plumber” Wurzelbacher’s macabre old saw: “Your dead kids don’t trump my Constitutional rights.”

Its not only fair, Rob, its right on target.

I cancelled my membership long ago. They’ve gone overboard, out of whack.

I don’t remember any of the conservatives who used to frequent the board fitting your description.

Its a variant of the “dictionary syndrome” I’ve exposed among Conservatives here. They assume anyone who doesn’t support uncontrolled firearms ownership and use must do so because they are totally ignorant of firearms and their uses, or timidly afraid of even handling them. From there, its a short step to accuse them of being cowards, traitors, faggots and communists, too.

The idea is to attack your opponents by implying that nothing they say or think is meaningful or valid. So if you call them fascists, they launch into an etymological analysis of the word. Sound familiar? Engage in a discussion of military policy, and they accuse you of being a draft dodger (the implication, of course, is that THEY are all patriots, war heroes and combat veterans and everyone else should keep his mouth shut.)

Fortunately, the aims and maneuvers of the NRA need not be studied with such psychological or social considerations in mind. The NRA may exploit puerile gun fetishism in its knuckle-dragging members, but the organization itself is purely commercial in motives and actions. This is all bout money, not freedom. Every aspect of NRA policy is designed to increase gun sales. They are a trade group, an industrial lobby. They represent the firearms and weapons accessories industry and infrastructure. This is why they want to arm teachers. It will just sell even more guns.

“Gunsplaining“. Now I like that. That one belongs in the dictionary.

Remember that GOP Congressman who tried to convince us that we needed to legalize silencers (er…excuse me…”noise suppressors“) to protect the hearing of “law-abiding” gun owners at shooting ranges?
I have other ways of protecting my hearing at the range, and I know when someone’s pissing in my ear, too.

This action should drive more people and businesses to distance themselves from the NRA
