They used to have illustrations of things like grim, determined GIs protecting the honor of scantily-clad MASH nurses from charging hordes of leering, drooling CHICOMs. Bodice-busting and zombies often feature prominently in this genre. <img src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v47bnG28oOM/Vlk_zLjAbII/AAAAAAAAMu8/v5eWPoZwdDo/s1600/argosy19380716small.jpg" alt="." /> If you can't handle the stresses of your job as assistant shift manager at Wal-Mart you fantasize about how tough you'll be fighting off the barbarians after the collapse of Western Civilization. And she'll be soooo grateful for being rescued... But what really scares me is all of these middle-aged suburban warriors are armed now...heavily armed. These clueless milquetoasts aren't going to go into the bush and live off the land. As soon as they get hungry, they'll get desperate. When I think of the apocalypse, all I can see is cannibalism after the ammo runs out...gradually morphing into feudalism.
