I saw Perkins interviewed yesterday by Jake Tapper on this same issue (I was in the auto dealership lobby while my car was being serviced) and he told us exactly how he would have reacted if Obama had done something similar. (And yes, it is very hard to imagine.) I paraphrase, of course.

<em>"We're willing to give Trump another chance because we (Conservatives) are sick and tired of being slapped (by Obama) on one cheek, and when we turn the other cheek, getting slapped again, and again, and again."</em>

He went on and on until Tapper cut him off.

He wasn't as measured and collected as he was when responding to Erin Burnett. He actually believed this, and he believed it so strongly he obviously was convinced that anyone within the sound of his voice would know exactly what he was talking about, and why, and would have no choice but to agree with him instantly. The Christian God may be one of forgiveness and redemption, but the Christian Hell is an infinite and eternal torture chamber. It goes all the way back to Jonathan Edwards and Cotton Mather, to the Salem Witch trials and burning crosses in the night. You can see the gleam in their eye when they visualize "sinners in the hands of an angry God". These people make my flesh crawl.

What is wrong with them, RL? This guy isn't some Fox call-in guest, or a Limbaugh dittohead. He is in a responsible position in national Conservative politics. This goes way beyond a difference in political opinion, or contrasting views on social or cultural issues. This goes beyond ideology, this is Mesozoic lizard brain shit. These people have worked themselves into a shivering frenzy of hatred, they feel they have been systematically brutalized and victimized by some great evil, a hideous malignancy of supernatural proportions. And they see themselves as its helpless victims, now finally getting their revenge and they are going to be ruthless--because their enemies deserve to be tortured slowly to death.

They talk about the Left the way the Nazis talked about the Jews. They know they deserve the pleasure they will receive when they carry out their vengeance. They live in a Charles Bronson/Steven Segall/Clint Eastwood vigilante revenge fantasy, and they will not stop until they get that demon exorcised. There is no doubt in my mind they fantasize about that orgasm of retribution every single day of their lives.

What can men do against such reckless hate?
