I found some JavaScript for Flash plugins that was being included unnecessarily. When I blocked it, the Flash icon went away for me with Firefox. Could you check again using Chrome? This is followed by two buttons, one saying "Update plugin...", the other saying "Run this time" The first button sends to a Google Chrome Help Page with all sorts of options and controls that mean absolutely nothing to me. The second makes the banner go away. If I do nothing, nothing seems to happen. I can proceed as if nothing had happened.
