There is a joy in the postures and gestures our bodies adopt in producing a product that digital technology has taken away from us. The skill of knowing how to use a scribing tool, how to operate a Leroy set, how to use drafting tools, even how to properly roll or unroll a manuscript, flattening it out without wrinkling it. They're all gone now. Only our typing and mouse skills seem to matter any more. Man is a tool-using animal. I spent more than a few evenings working on that paper, doing everything from writing to layout. We were one of the last groups to use xacto knives and scotch tape to put that rag together. Layout nights were only slightly more organized than a kegger, and after they digitized the process, that part of it just wasn't fun anymore. Should have known The Gauntlet would have it online.
