I think of myself as a music lover, one who samples all the genre, and I often find myself connecting the dots between performances like Gene Krupa's drum solo on "Sing, Sing, Sing!" from the 1940s, and Edgar Winters' drums on "Frankenstein" in the 70s. The big band musicians would have known exactly what to do with a stadum-grade sound system, and I think Gene Kelly could've danced with Beyonce in the Super Bowl and literally not missed a beat. Artistic mastery like that is timeless. It's the sort of thing I've never been able to convey to culture warriors, like my Dad Atilla the Republican, who believes that the only good music ever was old-timey cowboy country, and today's "country" is a liberal abomination, let alone any other kind of music like the Devil's Own™ rock-n-roll. But to me, musical genres are all connected in some way, and they belong to everybody. Nice find, man, thanks again.
