Fred added class to the act, but she brought sex.

Together, they were breathtaking.

I think you're not giving Tom enough credit for performance art, for intellectual tap-dancing; and it's a mistake to try to understand him as a believer in everything he defends. It makes more sense to think of Tom as a wannabe Fox News "pundit", every day fighting the battle to normalize the world into just two bins: Conservative Good, Liberal Bad.

This view of a professional/avocational argumentarian resolves the many contradictions of trying to defend the deeply schizophrenic rightwing belief system(s). It's not necessary to figure out how one brain can hold so many contradictory, not to mention false, ideas (Libertarians and cultural conservatives make the strangest bedfellows), because that's not the point. What matters to the pundit is winning the argument put before him. Anybody who fits into the Conservative Good bin is automatically right and to be defended, anybody else is to be condemned.

A historical point: I don't associate Tom at all with Lee and GBaike, and Tom's only occasionally been an ally of SDAI. I think you're just looking to tar by association. You're right about TB trying to enforce ideological purity among conservative Zoners, but the results are more often a little embarrassing (for the subject as well as TB), so the less said about that the better.

Even the Devil might be a little embarrassed to have been proved so wrong on the subject of global warming. Just a thought, but I think Tom's path would be smoothed by a little truth and reconciliation: Admit you were wrong, dude, so we can move on. Nobody's forcing you to huddle with people who think science is "lies straight from the pit of hell". That's your choice, and you can come in from the cold any time you choose.

Back to you, ER. Bye.
