I noticed after a while some e-mails had that header “checked by snopes” which really made me curious as I highly doubted it, so I’d check snopes and sure enough it was nothing of the kind.

More time passed, and I noticed sometimes he’d write that he hadn’t had time to check it with snopes, but “you can’t always trust Snopes!”

I’d set up a filter for his e-mails, but very rarely he sends something personal which I’m glad to get.

Validity is one thing, effectiveness is another. Unfortunately, there is a hole in the right wing mind. ANYTHING that disproves EVERYTHING they want to believe is a liberal lie and requires no further investigation.

Maybe you are putting more stress on it than it deserves.

And there are advantages to this medium.

You can take your time and think over your message before sending it on its way. You can also take your time and think over your correspondent’s message carefully before you respond to it. That’s why the duck always wins.

No one can see you’re a short, overweight old guy who needs a shave and a haircut, dressed in shorts, dirty wifebeaters and Okabashis. (Think: a Cheech Marin who doesn’t work out but still has all his hair, although I do admit to being compared to Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, and Paul Simon when I was a young studly macho boogie dude.) I’m a lot better with a keyboard than I am with the “physical”. I also know how to pick my ground before I do battle.

The one thing I do try to do (perhaps not always successfully) is come across as someone I am, not as I would like to be.

That is why I just post pictures on my Community page on Facebook. I let everyone else draw their own conclusions.

I know when I spoke one time of my *individuality* you were bumfuzzled. I, in turn came away scratching my head because I thought I had explained myself rather well.

It has been known to fail every now and then, but it still works more often than not.

Remember, the key to success in a chaotic, fractal and stochastic reality is the ability to make the correct decisions (again, more often than not) even when faced with insufficient or unreliable data.

IOW, when you have no other choice, trust your intuition. Its usually better than a wild guess.

I have used Snopes about twice in my lifetime. Thus the question. I heard a rumor yesterday about stolen UPS uniforms and I went to Snopes for verification.
God only knows how I must come across here on the Zone.
But with your speculation ER, I am beginning to see the light.
