France and the UK are not bombing as much as we are.

In fact, we're bombing more than everyone else put together, except maybe the Russians, and that's because the Russians are carpet bombing, they don't care who they kill as long as Assad's enemies are dying, civilian hostages or not. You do know what carpet bombing is don't you? Ask Ted. He wants to make the sand glow. You know who the civilians are, don't you? Ask The Donald, he's the one who wants to go after the families. That kind of bully boy tough talk may make Conservatives feel all warm and fuzzy, but its really, really stupid. It just pisses off people who hate ISIS and will get them to change sides and work against us instead. THAT'S WHY SOMETIMES THE PLANES COME BACK STILL CARRYING ORDNANCE. Its not only the smart thing to do from a military point of view, its the right thing to do.

We have been taking out ISIS leaders with drones, one after another, and hitting more and more economic targets, which means we're developing a lot of intelligence; and we are moving in spotters on the ground to take advantage of the new intelligence we're developing. Short of ground troops, we're doing a hell of a lot, more than anyone else. Remember, those are not our countries. We have to kiss the Turk's ass just to use our base at Incirlik. And I agree with the President that we should not be sending in any infantry. We tried that, remember? It didn't work. We can't just go into another part of the world unless we're invited. That's how we got in this mess, remember?

Your problem, Rob, along with all the other Conservatives, is that Obama will never do enough for you, no matter what he does, but your lot doesn't have any ideas except to accuse Obama of "lack of leadership". The Right has even refused to give him the authorization for the use of force he needs. I suspect this has been done on purpose, as part of the program of blackmail, obstruction and sabotage the Right has been conducting for the last seven years in an attempt to discredit this President, by not allowing him to do anything, even appoint judges and agency chiefs. And why, because they don't like his ideas on health insurance?

So far, the only Republican with an actual ISIS plan of his own was Lindsay Graham, and you saw what happened to him. The last thing the Republican Congress wants is for America to succeed in the middle east. They need an American failure so they can blame it all on Obama, take the White House and vote themselves a tax cut.

The rest of the Klown Kar is just talk, talk out of both sides of their mouths, accompanied by copious smoke out their ass.

Anyone can try to justify their numbers. Who wouldn't. But I hope you guys are right....

And I'm not "terrorized". I'm being practical and don't know why you can't comprehend that.

I don't give a shit what the Republican candidates are saying. It's not hard to come up with your own opinion after reading the news these days.

Let's not do stupid things. But let our leaders do "something". France and the UK decided to "bomb the shit out of them" after the Paris attack. Stupid or not, they took action.

We are just saying "let's not do the same stupid things again"... Saying you want to make sand glow, and you want to Waterboard children of terrorists is not a rational response.

If the odds of something happening go from ridiculously improbable to still ridiculously improbable, that's no reason to panic.

Suppose a lottery adjusted its numbers to double the odds of hitting it. Say, from 60 million to one to 30 million to one.

Would you declare yourself rich and go out and buy a Maserati?

I'm completely baffled by the mindset that screams that we must do something, anything!, about the absurdly slim odds of being shot by a terrorist, and yet screams just as loudly that we can't and shouldn't do anything about the gun violence that kills thousands of times as many people in America.

Are you afraid that if the bullet kills you was fired by a Muslim, you won't go to heaven?

Your perspective is completely screwed up because you're the victim of multiple successful terrorist attacks, Rob. I say successful because you know full well that the people killed in a terrorist attack are collateral damage. The target is the general population, the survivors, who the attack is designed to panic into stampeding over the edge of the terrorists' preferred cliff.

You're terrorized. Mission Accomplished.

Why am I still explaining this after all these years of experience with terrorism? This isn't our first turn around this particular dance floor.

What's different now? Could it be the Republican primary? Could it be all those Republican Presidential candidates furiously amplifying the terrorists' message of fear to pander for your vote?

Take a deep breath, Rob, and stop being a patsy for demagogues.

Take your head out of the sand.

After the Paris attack, San Bernardino and the Russian airliner, all in a months time, doesn't that give you reason to be concerned? France just foiled an attack in the Orleans region three days ago.

I don't understand this "bury your head in the sand attitude". We need to be doing "something" other than what we have been doing. In the mean time, our "adversaries" are gaining strength. There's no need for fear, just action.

Since 9/11, foreign-inspired terrorism has claimed about two dozen lives in the United States. (Meanwhile, more than 100,000 have been killed in gun homicides and more than 400,000 in motor-vehicle accidents.)
...
The 2011 Report on Terrorism from the National Counter Terrorism Center notes that Americans are just as likely to be “crushed to death by their televisions or furniture each year” as they are to be killed by terrorists.

Statistics from the Centers for Disease Control show that Americans are 110 times more likely to die from contaminated food than terrorism. And see this and this.

The Jewish Daily Forward noted last year that – even including the people killed in the Boston bombing – you are more likely to be killed by a toddler than a terrorist. And see these statistics from CNN.

Reason notes:

[The risk of being killed by terrorism] compares annual risk of dying in a car accident of 1 in 19,000; drowning in a bathtub at 1 in 800,000; dying in a building fire at 1 in 99,000; or being struck by lightning at 1 in 5,500,000. In other words, in the last five years you were four times more likely to be struck by lightning than killed by a terrorist.

The National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) has just published, Background Report: 9/11, Ten Years Later [PDF]. The report notes, excluding the 9/11 atrocities, that fewer than 500 people died in the U.S. from terrorist attacks between 1970 and 2010.

Scientific American reported in 2011:

John Mueller, a political scientist at Ohio State University, and Mark Stewart, a civil engineer and authority on risk assessment at University of Newcastle in Australia … contended, “a great deal of money appears to have been misspent and would have been far more productive—saved far more lives—if it had been expended in other ways.”

You are 187 times more likely to starve to death in america than be killed by a terrorist... what do you think would happen if Obama declared war on hunger and spent a measly 10 billion ? The GOP would scream 'socialism!!!' and block him in any way they could...
