They figure unless you can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt no more children whatsoever would be baked in cars, or if you can show at least one child was deliberately roasted, on purpose, then any attempt to pass legislation that might merely reduce the number of victims would be just the nanny state infringing on their freedoms.

Mainly, they just want tinted windows because they think it makes them look cool.

...is to outlaw tinted windows in vehicles, which I am convinced play a big part in these accidents.. That way passers-by are more likely to see a child trapped in a parked car, knock out the window and rescue him.

Tinted windows have become a safety hazard. You can't see through them from the outside, so any illegal or hazardous activity inside is invisible from outside, and other drivers have trouble seeing through cars to spot traffic hazards and dangerous conditions on their other sides. Since tinted windows became common, particularly in large vehicles like SUVs, I (who drive a small car), often feel surrounded and walled in by other cars, and I can't evaluate traffic conditions around me in other lanes. This is often dangerous, particularly on the interstate at high speeds. I can't see any farther than the car beside me. I'ts not just me, either. My wife has also complained about this.

In Florida, windshields and rear windows by law must be clear glass, but side windows can be tinted. On sunny days, people inside can see out OK, but people outside can't see in.

I would think that most people would be for anything which could minimize this occurrence. Apparently some people aren't.

Now, since no one bakes their kid intentionally, no amount of laws will directly prevent this. But it may, just may, be in the back of someone's mind when they leave their car.

It's easy to get busy and distracted. Anything which might help bring attention back to the situation should be applauded. I think.
