Black apples November 18, 2013 1:20 pm SteveS

I did the grocery shopping Sunday morning and came across some Arkansas Black Apples. Never seen them before so I bought a couple of the high priced ($2.99lb) apples compared to the local Fuji apples at $1.99lb.

I liked them, crisp with a distinctive taste and a little tart which I didn’t expect from a dark red apple and might do well in a apple cobbler or pie. I like my apple pies a little tart.

Apparently they are a late October harvest apple and store well turning blackish over time. I would buy more if they weren’t priced so high.
