It appears the bombers were indeed Islamic terrorists. Actually, they were terrorists who just happened to be Muslim, although that is just splitting hairs. They weren’t home-grown terrorists, although they weren’t exactly foreigners, either. They came to this country about ten years ago, as a child and a teen-ager, and seem to have been thoroughly acculturated. They came from a part of the world where the “infidels” were Russians, not Americans. Nothing adds up.

What remains to be seen is was this just a personal grudge against this country, or were they part of a larger group with some kind of political or religious agenda? The lack of any claim of responsibility for the bombing is inconsistent with an ideological motive, but that doesn’t mean we should rule it out, either.

I must admit I am baffled.
