The Lake House. December 9, 2012 2:26 pm ER

I just saw a terrific movie, “The Lake House” (2006)with Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock and Christopher Plummer. It’s a love story, a chick flick, to be precise, but it has a great script and some terrific performances in it, and it does have an interesting science fiction twist in it which makes it fair game for this page. I highly recommend it. Bullock is absolutely gorgeous in it, and Reeves can actually act. I was impressed.

I saw the film several years ago, and enjoyed it, but this time I was already familiar with its very complex plot so I was able to spend some time enjoying it as a piece of filmmaking and storytelling. It’s a finely crafted little piece of work. In fact, its a masterpiece. I had to share it with you guys.

When the film first started and they were rolling the opening credits, I was in another room and I could hear the music, although I didn’t recognize it. I suddenly had a memory flash through my head of the film, and I asked my wife, for no really good reason, “What was the name of that movie we watched a few years ago with Bullock and Reeves”. She replied that it had just started on TV.

Those brief few bars of the opening theme had made me think of that film, which I hadn’t seen in years. The music was pretty formulaic, there should have been no reason why it should conjure up that memory from the vaults, but it did. Somehow, my brain made the connection, it made the link without me even being aware that I was doing so. There’s a clue there in how the brain stores and accesses information.

Anyway, check out the film if you come across it. It’s not bad for a chick flick.
