The minute I heard the “Atlantis” crap, I knew this was a fraud.

There was never any Atlantis. It is only mentioned once in antiquity, but that story is still quoted as proof. In one of Plato’s dialogues, (Google it, its on the net) he reports that Socrates spoke about it. He allegedly eavesdropped on Socrates during one of his dinner parties, and the latter supposedly had heard the story from Solon, when he was a young man. Solon had reportedly gone to Egypt when HE was a young man, and the Egyptian priests told him how Egypt and Athens had fought together to defeat Atlantis in a war 9000 years earlier.

9000 years before Solon, neither Egypt nor Greece existed as countries, they were inhabited by neolithic bands of hunter gatherers.

Of course, Plato was trying to make a philosophical point, not delivering a lecture on history. But somehow that story has been repeated over and over, accreting bullshit like some turdly planetesimal, for the last 2500 years, so now all you have to say is “Atlantis” and people nod their heads sagely and mutter something profound like Hamlet’s “heaven and earth” line to Horatio.
