My system administrator still hasn't been able to locate the problem, but she's gotten a lot of pointers from your notes, and she is pressing on.

In the meantime, she can still print, but at reduced efficiency and convenience. Everything is slowed down. We'll keep you posted.

<p>Did y'all totally uninstall the printer software before re-installing the driver? </p>

You might consider cleaning out the registry...as a last resort. There might be a left over fragment in there somewhere. I've used both Ccleaner and or Norton to do this but it can result in trouble. Make sure there is a Restore point made first!

Consider trying another malware product to see what it can find. I use SpyBot search and destroy. But having too many anti-virals and malware can also lead to trouble.

When printing, go to the control panel and open up that printer. You should see a status window. What does it say there during the wait to print? Can you tell from the TaskManager (ctrl-alt-delete) if the sprinter is using a lot of system resources?

I'm no expert, though.

MMe Reclus thanks you for your quick response, but says she's already tried those options (she is much more tech oriented than I am).

This delay in printing is usually about two minutes. It used to print instantaneously. Once printing begins, it proceeds in a nominal fasion. And the problem appears unrelated to the size of the file she's trying to print.

1) The first step is hit the HP site on the internet.

Always check online for more recent drivers than what comes with the printer or other device, and download them. Be sure you're matching your operating system.

2) Is this happening for everything you print, or just some things? My own HP laserprinter is a bit old, and has a hell of a time plowing through some PDF documents for some reason.

3) Make sure you are hooked up to the fastest USB port on your computer. Usually this isn't an issue--most computers only have one set. My old machine has USB 1 and 2, and my new machine has 2, and a card that gives it USB 3.

Note that in some cases, if you're using a USB hub, some hubs will default all their plugs to the lowest-speed item connected to it.
