Yup. But I wanted to get it posted last night. Several other nit-picks could be included.

Time Zone is whatever the file was; I assume Pacific, where Robert is. Mostly Pacific Daylight Time, as most of the period was during daylight savings, but I did not edit out the posts that would have been Standard time.

The columns should have no gap, traditionally; and a curve would be nice too.

The Histogram:

I took the file provided by our uber-mod, opened it in word, search and replaced all the spaces and what not with commas, saved as txt, opened in excell, did some sorting, binning, charting, and came up with this:

I'll upload the file if anyone wants it. Would still like a file of just my posts and time stamps, out of curiosity, to actually answer your question in an empirical way.

Thanks, Robert, I was able to download the file into excell just fine and am looking forward to crunching numbers.

However, a few requests, if you've the time:

Can you format the data to include a comma between the date and the time stamps? I could do that in text editor but was wondering if you can do it easier.

Also, how would you feel about providing a column for user name, so I can break out my own time patterns?

Thanks again Robert. I'm busy as hell, but I might be able to crank out some graphs from this data.

Best to download it from the media library.

The format is CSV, aka comma-separated variables, which is lines of text each representing one post, divided into two fields, one the post ID, the other the date/time:

"5","2011-04-23 15:33:34"
"4","2011-04-23 15:33:59"
"20","2011-04-23 15:33:59"
"7","2011-04-23 15:35:17"
....

You can import this format into Excel to slice and dice it and turn it into pretty graphs showing the Zone's diurnal cycle. Somebody will, and I look forward to it.

Indeed one could. And one has.

See my post to podrock "Statistics-R-Us" below. The data is simple to import into a spreadsheet if you want to take a look.

Statistics-R-Us

I just uploaded an extract from the database, a copy of the 'posts' table containing only the ID and timestamp fields. It's in CSV format, and is in the library under the filename "posts_dates".

Enjoy!

One could log the times of the posts and get a pretty good idea of any patterns. In my experience it's usually just you and I after 10:00 PM PST, not always.
