I realize I am a nibbler. I compensate for this by having six small meals a day. They say it keeps the metabolism from running down also...but I think it makes me hungrier.

This is just a pain in my ass.

I'm going by people I know who have had success with normal weight issues. If there is something actually wrong with someone's metabolism, it's another story, but that certainly isn't a majority.

I hear you, Jody. I have had that, too, most of my life. Once I get all sugar and white starches cleaned out of my system, it is lessened which would correspond to what they're saying in that article.

I'm on Prednisone right now, major dosage, and one thing it does is make you hungry all the time so I'm fighting it constantly. I almost made myself sick last night and then I literally had to throw good food into the trash so I wouldn't continue eating. I saw the same thing happen to my poor sister and she was on prednisone almost constantly for the last years of her life. Thankfully, I'm only on it for 10 days.

The only time I didn't have any hunger was Atkins Phase I (the old Atkins) when dinner was likely to be turkey breast sauteed in olive oil or butter with green peppers and onions and mushrooms and then cream and swiss cheese over it to make a thick gravey. I love a lot of weight but my cholesterol went up. Shit. And it tasted wonderful. But, by God, that and a salad and I was satisfied. There is a perfect diet out for me; I'm just not sure what it is.

As you know well, I'm sure, calorie counting is a bunch of hype shit dietitians use to justify their existence. It's all about getting the body to burn fat and staying away from unhealthy carbs. Not all diets are good for all body types. They've finally scientifically proved that. Wish I watched Dr. Oz every day. He has some good info on this, some of it cutting edge stuff.

TB, you speak from ignorance. You sound just like a doctor I know about at KU who used to say all obese people just needed to push away from the table. I would have liked to have throttled the son-of-a-bitch and I would advise you, with that attitude, to stay out of this discussion or I'll fillet you and have you for breakfast.

The secret to weight control is "eat less, exercise more." Mostly "eat less." It takes a lot of exercise to burn off a few calories.

It's about portion control, not the foods you eat. Most successful dieters I've known have been in programs where they're counting calories in some way or other and keeping track of what they eat. These diets can include desserts and other things.

I am trying an experiment today after reading this. I fixed myself 3 eggs mixed with cottage cheese.

It was 10:30 a.m. I am curious to see if I get near as hungry, during the day.

I have a constant gnawing of hunger and I am so frustrated trying to *disregard* this feeling. Does anyone else constantly feel hungry?

When I first started the Atkins lifestyle, I was never hungry but about two years ago, that changed. I thought introducing some carbohydrates from fruit and whole grains might help...but it only made the gnawing feeling worse...plus I have gained some weight.
I knew and have always said...losing weight is the easy part. It is keeping the weight maintained that is my albatross.
