What I found puzzling was how could someone who is perfectly aware of Conservative/Republican zealotry and fanaticism and its origins in sheer self-interest and psychopathology still make a career of working for these social deviants all the way to a comfortable retirement. The years this man spent as a GOP staffer are precisely the ones that have seen the ascendancy of the Republican lunacy he describes.

After all, this isn't a man who has had an epiphany and changed his political views, calling for a re-evaluation of his life and beliefs. No. He's still a conventional, moderate Eisenhower Republican, who continued dutifully serving his masters even as they seized control of his party and perverted its, and his, traditions and principles, not to mention treasonously threatened his country.

It's a phenomenon we see increasingly more often, even right here on this forum: intelligent, decent, educated men who refuse to question their toxic partisans because they are afraid to alienate potential allies or expose as frauds those malignant forces that have infiltrated their side. Perhaps they fear that criticizing some of their party will be seized on by the opposition as evidence that all of their partisans morally and ethically suspect.

Then again, maybe its a lot simpler than all that. He's a Republican. He was only in it for the money from the start.

Holy crap!
IOW, my way or no way.

Maybe we should declare open season of the lunatic right. I've wanted to bitch slap leather cheeks (Boehner) for a long time.

(No, I am not condoning violence.)
