Pretty good results. To put "pretty good" in context, I find that approx 5 megabits is adequate to watch medium-grade (1024x720) streaming video with only infrequent stutters and breakups, and never freezes while buffering.

OTOH, it might not be 5 any more. This morning's fast results may not be a fluke. Here's what I get at just before 7PM:

speakeasy: 10
bandwidth place: 25.29
speedtest.net: 25.24

Ya know, maybe Comcast doesn't suck after all? What a concept!

Tested mine on two of the links you gave. The first one doesn't have anything near KC listed.

The Broadband site gave me: 15.39 Mbps DL and 10 minutes later 20.30. UL was .97 Mbps and identical in the 2nd test. Ping 43, then 40 ms on the 2nd.

Bandwidth Place returned 10.41 DL, .957 UL, 2nd test 8.23 DL, .954 UL and a 3rd time 9.62 DL, .953 UL. No pings listed.

The DL was all over the place. This is the time of afternoon when all the kids are getting home from school and getting onto their computers.

doh!

Gettin' dyslexic with my upload versus download. Maybe cause I build Web sites, where your download looks like my upload. Or maybe I'm just bs'ing.

Eri's speed is great. What I measured this morning is great, too, but since I've measured ~5 on multiple occasions, for now I have to chalk it up to a quiet time of day. I'll try again early evening tonight and post those results for comparison.

I'm now paying about $70/month for Internet service. They jacked up the price from $55 when I cancelled the video, on the grounds that I was paying a bundled price. Pound of flesh no matter what you call it. Though if they delivered 25 megabits/second consistently, I'd have to concede that the price isn't out of line. But I doubt that they will.

<blockquote="I translate that into 39.8 megabits/second upload, and about 24 the second time.">

Don't you mean download? That would be great. I am paying about 40.00 per month and I average from 5 to 7 download and a pretty steady 4.5 upload.
I don't do much uploading so it doesn't concern me that much.

Bandwidth test results

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ : 25.28 up, 4.21 down (selected New York as the target)

http://www.bandwidthplace.com/ : 25.3 / 4.43

http://www.speedtest.net/ : 25.25 / 4.05 (29 mS ping)

I'm blown away; I've never gotten speeds that high except for the anomalous "boost" mode. What's probably at work is that it's mid-morning here, and that's probably one of the deader times of the day for residential Internet use. I still expect to see down around 5 in primetime hours.

Looks like I did get screwed like that ;-)

Wish I could get screwed like that.;-)

Looks like you're off by a decimal point, Eri. I translate that into 39.8 megabits/second upload, and about 24 the second time. 54 mS ping isn't too bad, either; a "ping" as named after the sonar echo, and it's the roundrip time from your computer out to some switch gear on the net.

When I test, I google "bandwidth test" and then use the first four services on the list. That spreads the test around multiple geographical locations, which evens out variations caused by distance. What's left is the raw speed of your ISP.

My results just now:

http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ : 2.25 megabits/second upload...oh, wait, this PC is on the other end of my apt's wireless net. 2.25 is impossibly low even for Comcast.

Stand by...next post will be from the living room and the media PC connected directly to the Net....
