In certain areas. Once it happens the Feds will be in no position to "restore order" nation wide. The Hinterlands will do just fine.

Look, you've got the mindless talking points down. Tell me where the center is. I hear Democrats with all kinds of plans for more taxes and spending, and damn few details on how they'll cut back. None, to be precise. Here's a starting point: simply declaring you're going to reduce spending by a few trillion dollars is not a plan. Show me one place where the Democrats have moved away from where they were back in May. Again, with details you can print out and point to. Not "yeah, we might take a look at entitlements after we get our tax hikes."

Show me the hard numbers from the Democrats, or stop it.

Yeah, and what do you think would come out the other end of the collapse? Freedom and democracy? How many times have we seen this scenario play out? There's a reason statists are allergic to history.

I've come to the conclusion that nothing should be done. Let the liberals continue to buy the votes of the ever increasing number of parasites with make believe money until this whole house of cards come tumbling down. The liberal bastions will burn as their crazed creations turn on each other looking for their "entitlements". The rest of the country will pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and hopefully learn a valuable lesson from the madness which brought an end to the failed experiment known as the "Great Society".

Nothing gets done because the GOP can't bring itself to move one fucking inch toward the center. You guys don't represent ALL of America, and if you can't compromise, you're right, NOTHING will get done.

What's really funny is how the people on this board who deplore the big multinational banks are the first ones to claim we should listen to them as experts on this issue. These banks are the ones who make fortunes by continuing this shell game of shuffling debt around. Of course they are going to oppose any plan that reduces their influence and business.

I'm tired, Buck. Very tired.
The "debt ceiling" has been a joke for years. They'll raise it. The Democrats want business as usual, big business and the stock market want business as usual, the government bureaucracy wants business as usual, everyone wants business as usual. Kick the can down the road one more time.

There will be no spending cuts. Democrats have never delivered on any past promises to cut spending with the sole exception of defense. There won't be any major tax increases or entitlement reforms. The Democrats had two years of solid power to do these things, and they kicked that can down the road, too. Remember the last time Republicans tried even the smallest real entitlement reform?

Our system has evolved a political animal that cannot think long term. Long term means political death. What do I have right now? What do I want right now? Five years down the road is an eternity. In the long run, we're all dead. Ryan was thinking in the long run, and got crucified for it. Obama is thinking of nothing past 2012, and will probably survive. Obama's stupid phrasing aside, nobody really wants to eat their peas.

So, we end up with Greece, Ireland, Italy, and all the rest. Our streets will be burning, led by those who believe they have a right to live off others, but unlike Greece there will be nobody left on the planet to bail us out.

You remember what Obama said about raising the debt limit back when a Republican was president? What's changed?

Good Lord, do you really think what he's trying to do right now really has anything to do with the debt limit? The only thing in the mind of the Democratic Party right now is 2012. The only thing. This is the old Democratic "I will gladly cut spending on Tuesday for a tax increase today" gag. How did it work out for Republicans the last few times they fell for it? That's why Obama is trying it again.

If the debt limit is that big a deal, then pass a quick, short-term increase with some balancing spending cuts so the heat is off and this can be debated properly. Put up or shut up. I know at least two reasons Obama really doesn't want that to happen and neither of them have anything to do with the economy.

As for the article, the debt ceiling we're banging up against (according to the article) is currently at $14.3 trillion. The most recent U.S. GDP number (2010) was $14.6 trillion. I'm having a hard time getting that to come out as "an affordable 65 percent."

You're essentially reading a Democratic press release. This is exactly what they're trying to sell. "Do what the Democrats want or the Republicans are going to kill us all."

The socalled "economic experts" are the ones that have gotten us into a $14.6 Trillion debt. Yeah, they really know what they're doing.

So nothing gets done. The debt ceiling is raised, trillions more borrowed every year, a couple of billion is cut here and there but most of the insignificant cuts will be smoke and mirrors, and the debt will continue to balloon until the US Dollar is nothing but worthless paper. Let the ponzi scheme known as the US government collapse under its own weight. Sounds like a great idea to me.
