LOL, as “gotchas” go, it’s pretty tame. I was mostly just wondering if you’d bother addressing it.

Obama is a hard-line academic leftist trying to pretend to many different audiences that he isn’t one. Except the rare hard-line leftist audience of course. We’ve gotten some interesting sound bites from some of those speeches.

People like Barack Obama and Rick Perry have very specific sets of beliefs, consistent with a long, easily-traced history and consistent with many, many other people who have pretty much the same beliefs.

Obama has no fixed ideas or principles other than the usual liberal academic belief in the State as an absolute around which a nation revolves. Everything else depends on who his audience is and what he’s trying to sell them.

Me, you’re right. I’m an onion all the way down. Obama is like a jawbreaker you’re working on: it’s a different flavor every time you look.

It’s a well-reasoned piece and is, IMO, quite accurate. Obama IS all those things at the same time. What he is saying is the President is a complex man just as we all are complex beings and to try to deride the man for being one thing doesn’t work and will ultimately slide off him because he does have so many facets that balance one another out.

One can be an asshole while still being a nice person who loves animals and helps old ladies across the street.

Cases in point, you, TB can be both of those and so can I. Both of us have. You are complex and so am I. Layers upon layers that you can peel away like onion skins. And when you get to the center, you still got an onion. And damn, I LOVE onions!
