While medicare costs have risen 400% over the rate of inflation since 1969, private insurance has risen 700% over that same time. The points Krugman makes here have been pointed out before, but look for TB to throw out his usual sidestepping “Liberals want something for nothing. It has to be paid for…” bullshit. Hey TB, READ the article, it addresses that point. Raising taxes to cover healthcare for all would still save consumers money because it would eliminate the huge sums people currently pay for private healhcare insurance.
