I have someone do my grocery shopping for me since my knees will not allow me to do that much walking around on a hard floor. She has instructions to NEVER buy anything that says "light" on it. Light means they've taken the half unhealthy out of it and replaced it with totally unhealthy, either salt or high fructose corn syrup or both. I try not to buy much in the way or "prepared" foods. I buy frozen vegetables if they're nto available fresh or if it's going to be further down the line when I want to use them.

Exactly. The American food industry has this nasty obsession with loading everything with sugars and salt to pump up the taste at the cost of toxicity. Much of my effort reforming my diet after the heart attack was finding healthy forms of the store-bought foods that almost killed me.

I go through a batch like the recipe in about a week, because I don't just eat it for breakfast. Throughout the day I'll grab a fistful of granola to munch. I figure that without any sugar, very little salt, and high-fiber oats, I needn't feel too guilty about it.

It's ironic that granola was once considered a health food. Nowadays it's tooth-rotting diabetes-inducing candy just like any other commercial breakfast cereal. I think it'd be neat to spread the word that granola can be made at home. It's the right idea for economic hard times, and the battle cry could be "make granola healthy again!".

Spread the word!

Sounds like a delicious snack food. I quit buying that crap at the grocery store because they always add high fructose corn syrup and I avoid that stuff like the plague.

I'll see if I can give this a try; however, if it falls on the floor, my cats will be playing polo with the grains and I'll be sweeping that stuff up for the next 10 weeks. Kitties are so much fun.
